Telstra Arcadyan Port Forwarding (and other issues)

Port forwarding does not work on the Telstra Arcdayan firmware version 0.04.14.

I've tried multiple different configurations, but continue to get no response, or sometimes connection refused.

I've also seen some very strange behaviour after rebooting, e.g. DNS requests time out (no response from CloudFlare, Google or even Telstra DNS servers, but ping and SSH traffic is fine.

Sometimes DNS will reply weird results:

lbest@LiamsMacbookPro:~$ nslookup

> server 1.1.1.1

Default server: 1.1.1.1

Address: 1.1.1.1#53

> google.com

;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

> server 61.9.134.49

Default server: 61.9.134.49

Address: 61.9.134.49#53

> google.com

;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

> google.com

Server: 61.9.134.49

Address: 61.9.134.49#53

Name: google.com

Address: 10.0.0.1

> google.com

Server: 61.9.134.49

Address: 61.9.134.49#53

Where is 10.0.0.1 coming from?

NAT/port forwarding not working is a major problem - reading through other posts on this forum seem to be inconclusive on how to resolve this, so can anyone definitively say whether a firmware upgrade will resolve the port forwarding problems, and if so how do I upgrade?

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you
  • No, I still need help

Try a factory reset and see if the firmware updates overnight. You can't manually do it.

Re: Telstra Arcadyan Port Forwarding (and other issues)

Firmware version 0.04.14 is the original firmware. Latest version is 07.05r. The later firmware versions fix a lot of bugs which were present in the original firmware. The firmware should automatically download and install overnight. One of the bugs with the early firmware prevented modem automatically updating. To update had to reboot modem manually (Advanced > Management > System Reset > Restart Device)

Port Forwarding should work with latest firmware.

Factory reset to fix the NAT issues, or just for the firmware?

I've been doing reboots every few nights to see if that kicks it off.

That's bizarre - why are Telstra still shipping these with original firmware? I only got this a few weeks ago.

The next firmware update after 07.05r should fix NAT. Don't know when this firmware will be available.

That's a good question and I don't know the answer, especially  as the automatic update does not work on some modems with early versions of the firmware..

Firmware, if the modem isn't updating automatically the firmware would need to be manually pushed to it.

I received a new test arcydian this week that had the newest version of the firmware installed. You may have just gotten one that had been on the warehouse a while.
