Telstra Gateway MAX 2

Answered

Hi,

Just noticed the Telstra Gateway MAX 2 is out and I'm interested in the unit.

I noticed an article here quoting Telstra: http://techau.com.au/telstra-launching-gateway-max-2-faster/

I currently have the Gateway MAX and I am finding it gets overwhelmed with all my WiFi devices. I have over 20 talking to the modem at once. I have even had the WiFi lock up on several ocassions, and I have had to re-enable it through the modem's menu. Also the range is terrible. I'm hoping the Gateway MAX 2 is better at handling traffic with it's faster 4x4 antenna setup and handling of up to 35 devices

My question is, as per that article link, Can I get the Telstra Gateway MAX 2 as an upgrade for $96, or would I have to buy it outright for $264 or $11 per month on my bill?

Right now I'm considering just turning it into bridged mode and use it plainly as a modem with a router attached that has better range and features, or If I can get the Gateway MAX 2 for $96 I will use that instead.

Re: Telstra Gateway MAX 2

From what i've just read the Gateway Max 2 $96 upgrade offer is only for new customers . If you are an existing customer is appears you only have the outright or MRO available

Also note the TG800 is only for ADSL/VDSL and NBN. It is not a HFC modem

Hi Shelly

Thank you. Can i request you to please help me with drops in internet in my home. I have powerline adapters, used to connect tv. While watching TV, the internet connection drops out and TV screen freezes. We have to restart every now and then. I have netgear range extender and the wi fi signal even after the range extender is not great in the house

These are the problems, that is why iwas looking to get the new gateway Max 2. But as it is not compatible with cable internet, I  have no solution for my problem.

Request you to please advice

Re: Telstra Gateway MAX 2

So the Gateway Max 2 is for cable users too?

My current Gateway Max overheats at anything over 21°C. We have to have a fan on it whenever it's in use otherwise the connection drops. Would love to upgrade to different hardware.

Cheers.

Hi Maxbeta,

The Gateway Max 2 is not available for cable at the moment. You can view our range of modems online Wi-Fi Gateways & Range Extenders.

I recommend contacting our tech support team on 133933 for the overheating issue as that should not be happening.

Re: Telstra Gateway MAX 2

Hi Chris,

Just this morning I called the Telstra NBN team with the idea of upgrading to the Max 2 and was told the Telstra Gateway MAX 2 is not compatable with NBN FTTN........which is the service I have.

And this is contrary to the information available on the Telstra.com site.

It's really confusing to say the least.

Would you care to tell me what the situation really is.

Cheers

Re: Telstra Gateway MAX 2

Hi Luvs_footie,

I'm not sure why you would have been advised that as the Gateway Max 2 should have no issues working with a NBN FTTN connection. There are different versions of this gateway for different types of technology and there is a specific one for NBN connections.

I recommend giving us a call on 1800 220 033 to discuss this further as this team are the specialists for new modems.

You're welcome to say you were referred by a Telstra staff member from Crowd Support and you can also refer them to our website which clearly states this is compatible. I have also checked our internal resources and confirmed this is compatible with the following types of NBN: FTTP / FW / FTTN / FTTB.

Hi Chris, I did a live chat with Telstra this morning and explained the situation and was told a Gateway Max 2 would be sent out to me. Did they misunderstand then that I was on cable and the hardware isn't available yet?

Re: Telstra Gateway MAX 2

Hi Maxbeta,

There does sound like there has been some confusion there, however the type of Internet you have should have been checked.

Were you in contact with our Tech Support or another team?

All types of modems for different service types can be found here: https://www.telstra.com.au/broadband/extras/getwifi

There are Gateway Max names given to a couple of different models, however the Gateway Max 2 at this stage looks to be specific to the TG799 which is compatible with ADSL and NBN. The TG800 is the Gateway Max 2 for ADSL and NBN.

Were you advised of a newer modem now available for Cable?

Hi, I was chatting to RYAN Employee Number: D800482 on 24/7 chat. I did mention I was on cable and that information would have been on my customer details I assume...

This is the modem I have heard about:

It might be useful if the 24/7 chat team have access to basic hardware specs, like is the modem compatible with cable/ADSL/NBN etc. That shouldn't be too difficult for them to see and relay that info to customers before ordering equipment.

I have purchased one of these units and have 2 issues that someone maybe able to help me with

1, the unit is not recognising my printer through the LAN cable, i have swapped cables and tried different ports. the LAN ports with the 2 PC's connected are working fine

2, the telephone light is not lighting up , i have however plugged in the phone and it is working

Re: Telstra Gateway MAX 2

Hi nusta,

Can you confirm that the printer is connecting to the modem via an Ethernet cable or USB cable? Have you run the set up wizard for your printer on your computer?

Can you confirm that the telephone is plugged into the green port #1 and if the light doesn't come on at all or if it only flashes when the line is in use.

The printer is connected to the modem via a ethernet cable, i also changed cables to one that i know works.

i have run the printer wizard and it cannot detect my printer. i have the latest drivers for the printer, i have checked the printer settings.

it is as though the modem is not recognising my printer

the only way i can print is by using a usb cable directly from the PC to the printer, bit inconvienient when we need to print from 2 PC's and one laptop.

Phone is plugged into #1 and the light does not come on at all.

I have logged into the modem through the gateway and clicked on the advanced settings tab, clicked onto devices tab, it does not show the printer as being plugged into any of the ethernet ports but it does show the 2 PC's plugged into ethernet ports, and wireless devices are showing up

i have plugged the printer usb cable into the modem but no luck there

Re: Telstra Gateway MAX 2

Hello, I received my new Gateway Max 2 router about three weeks ago with my new NBN connection. While I am really happy with the NBN speed and performance I cant say the same about the Gateway Max 2 router. THese are the issues I have found so far:

1: Has a very slow web interface and I mean very slow.

2: When assign static IP address to the local network using mac address the router doesnt use them.

3: The router DHCP servers asigns the same IP to multiple devices

4: The IP lease time cannot be extended longer than 1 day

5: 5GHz WiFi range is very poor. The 2.4GHz is better but not as good as my old Telstra router which was on ADSL

Re: Telstra Gateway MAX 2

Hi SulVento,

When you manually assign an IP address, what is the number range that you are starting in? I would suggest choosing a higher number such as 10.0.0.100 as this has worked for me.

In regards to the Wi-Fi range, have you tried changing the Wi-Fi channels? You can also download the Telstra Wi-Fi Maximiser App which will allow you to map the Wi-Fi coverage in your home as well as help you to test the speeds.

By teredo are you referring to ipv6? If you are on NBN you should be getting assigned an ipv6 and if link local address is checked in LAN settings the router should also assign local network devices ones as well off the top of my head

The Gateway Max 2 is compatible with NBN, both FTTN and FTTP. The USB ports are for attaching storage devices so that you can share media to other devices connected to the modem.

Re: Telstra Gateway MAX 2

I'm brand new to Crowd Support so hope I'm posting correctly.

I've just purchased a white Gateway MAX 2 for my Telstra ADSL2+ service (a replacement for my previous Belkin). My phone is connected to the correct green port (and the phone works) but the "Phone" light on top is not lit up.

I note Nusta reported this same problem14-11-2016 however I cannot see where the issue was resolved.

Telstra Tech Support promised to get back to me but alas - didn't happen

Does anyone know if no green light for phone is a Modem fault or is there something I should set?

Like others I also require a User Guide so I can correctly learn how to use the MAX 2. For example, the USB port on front of Modem had me tricked - the Telstra tech told me to disregard the USB because it is disabled. This is the type of thing I need a User Guide for because otherwise there is no way I would have known it was disabled. Tech Support told me there is no User Guide on the system however he will ask his Supervisor to get it loaded. Honestly, this is not good enough - a Guide should be available from day one. There is a Guide for the Black modem but mine is the latest white colour.

Would appreciate help on my phone light query and Telstra action on the User Guide

Thanks
