I have a Telstra Smart Modem Gen @ and do not have sufficient Cable Ports. Can I use a Telstra Smart Modem Gen 1 as a bridge to be able to increase the number of ports?

Yes you can use the gen 1 modem as a switch. Turn off wifi and put in bridge mode (Advanced > Local Network > Bridge Mode). Connect WAN port of Gen 1 modem to LAN port of Gen 2 modem.
