Does the new Telstra smart home modem supplied for NBN FTTN have an external antenna input for the 4G backup?if not can i fit a passive patch cabal to it ? as the light on it is flashing between red and amber i have 1 bar on my phone in my house and some times that drops out
The Gen 11 smart modems don't have an external antenna input.
There isn't an official position on passive devices to the best of my knowledge.
Mine does accept the signal from a Telstra stationary Go cell repeater.
The latest version of the smart modem Gen 2 don't have external antenna sockets but the earlier Smart Modem Gen 1.1 (DJA0230) and the Telstra Gateway Frontier (DJN2130) had two external Antenna sockets. I have seen second Smart Modems Gen 1.1 and Telstra Gateway frontier at cash convertors from as low as $9.
Have you tried the backup with the signal light on red. The speed is limited to 6 Mbps and you might find you are able to achieve this speed even though signal light is red.
Thanks to all I will look at getting another modem with the plugs in it
Yes with the signal in red the land line even drops out this is the only reason I want it as we are in a fire prone area
I did explain all of this before I signal up for it and they ashore me they will send one that I can attach an external areal to and (guess what)
There answer is we cant help you it is your problem
Telstra offer a device to improve coverage in marginal areas, though at quite a substantial cost.
For your information, here is a link to some Telstra information re extending coverage.
You mention your phone is required due to the fire situation.
If you require a phone service that continues to work on 4G backup and are thinking of getting a Telstra modem with 4G backup don't get the Telstra Gateway Frontier. Phone doesn't work on 4G backup on this modem.
The department to speak to at Telstra is remarkably called "Coverage" if you say that to the voice system on 132200 you will get the specialist department. Best wishes.
