Recent NetBank scam SMS

I recently received an SMS with a scam link trying to farm my bank password. While this is not surprising in itself, I found that the details of the message reported that the source phone number of the message was my own phone number. This means that I have no recourse for blocking the scam, either on my phone or at a network level.

 

Does the telstra network seriously let anyone provide an arbitrary phone number as the source of the SMS? Why has this vector for abuse not been closed long ago?
