Remote location

My son has moved to a remote outback location, what equipment/plan should he have?

There isn’t any ‘one size fits all’ answer to this question. 

in areas with limited service a Blue Tick phone may deliver a more consistent experience, in some cases something like a aerial or booster may be beneficial.

It depend on what you mean by remote outback location. 

 

Could need a satellite phone if he is mostly out of 3G/4G reception range.

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.
