I have a Telstra mobile smart antenna Netgear MSRB2500.
This worked well out in the country where we live on 3G.
I have bought a S8 on 4G and find that I am back to where we where with 3G with signal strength.
Will the netgear also handle 4G or is there a driver that I can upload for it to work with 4G.
Or is there some other solution to buying a new smart antenna.

I'm hoping someone else can answer your question about the Smart Antenna, as I don't know the answer to that.
What I can suggest in the meantime if you haven't tried already, is locking your S8 signal to 3G only.
Go into "Settings"
Click on "Connections"
Click on "Mobile Networks"
Click on "Network mode"
Click on "3G only"
When I lived in the country (my closest Telstra tower was 20km away), I didn't have a Smart Antenna, but I did lock my S6 onto 3G only which gave me full bars of signal.
