The 2018 FFA Cup Kicks Off

The FFA Cup has kicked off for another year. The Preliminary Qualifying Rounds commenced in February, to determine which of the 21 out of the 32 teams would secure a place in the tournament. The Cup, run by Football Federal Australia, is comprised of every Territory and State Member Federation team, including NPL and A-League clubs, all who will compete for the win.

2018 saw a record 772 clubs from around the country compete in the Preliminary Rounds, with the entry of the ten Hyundai A-League clubs. The ruling NPL 2017 Champions of Australia, are automatically secured a place in the Final Rounds - from Round of 32.

Northcote City are ready to take on Devonport Strikers, with the Tasmanian team travelling to Melbourne to compete in the historic FFA Cup clash. Northcote Head Coach Eric Vassiliadis will focus on the clubs younger stars to build his team in the Round of 32 cup game.

 

Brisbane Roar will take on Melbourne City FC at Redcliffe Dolphin Stadium. Roar recruit Stefan Mauk will take the stage against his former club when the two A-League teams meet.

Bentleigh Greens are set to take on Wellington Phoenix on Wednesday night. The Greens will host their A-League rival Wellington Phoenix at their Cheltenham club base. Wellington have re-signed Alex Rufer in time for the clash. Rufer, who played five seasons with the club ending at end of the last season, has signed a one- year deal, making him possible for selection for the Round of 32 FFA Cup game.
