Planning a road trip this holiday season? We’ve developed a list of tips to make sure you’re prepared for when you hit the great open road, from maintaining your mobile battery, to keeping your home secure while you’re away. Plus ways to help keep the kids entertained until you arrive at your destination.
Keep an eye on your battery
It’s never a good idea to let your phone battery die while travelling – especially on a road trip where you may need to make an emergency call.
Be sure to travel with a portable charger in case of emergency, and keep an eye on your battery usage in your device’s settings throughout your journey. You might find that certain apps are using battery in the background, even if you aren’t actively using them.
Check on your home – while you’re away from home
If you’re going away this holiday season, keep an eye on your home with Telstra Smart Home technology. Deterring a potential home intruder is the first line of defence when it comes to home protection, and there are many ways to monitor your home without the need for complex wiring or extravagant units.
A video doorbell uses a small camera and an app, sending you a notification when the door bell is activated. The app lets you view the person at the door and talk to them, wherever you might be.
Wireless cameras use motion detection and send an alert to your smartphone to notify you of movement, with recordings stored on a cloud for up to 30 days or downloaded to your device. Wireless cameras are relatively easy to set up and provide an extra level of protection for your home.
Home monitoring systems can come with a variety of devices such as cameras or sensors already included in a starter kit, with the option to add additional devices. These systems can be cloud based, and you won’t need multiple apps to handle the different aspects of your home monitoring. These systems can be remotely viewed anywhere in the world if your device has internet access.
