Telstra Air® App update

Support Team
Support Team

We’re continually working to improve your Telstra Air® app experience. As part of this we’re rolling out an update that must be downloaded before 17 April 2018.

How do I download the update?

Please go to your device’s app store, then search for ‘Telstra Air’. Select the ‘Update’ button to download the latest update.

How do I know if I have the right app version?

If you have an Apple device, the version of Telstra Air® that you need is iOS 9.2.0. If you have an Android device, the version is 8.0.2.

What happens if I don’t download this update?

If you don’t update the Telstra Air app, your device will no longer be able to auto-connect to a Telstra Air or Fon hotspot.  Remember that whenever your device is not connected to Wi-Fi, it may be using mobile data.

This means that in the event you have both WiFi and your 4G mobile network turned on, and you do not update the app, your phone may not use Telstra Air connection and revert to 4G network instead. Any data usage incurred on the 4G mobile network will count towards your plan allowance.

I’m still not sure about this, what can I do?

If you have any further questions about this update, please call us on 13 2200.

Yes I did mean no app. On windows devices we have to use the web browser which doesn't always work and is difficult to use on the a phones small display.

Simple and easy to use, the Telstra Air App will walk you through the activation process for your broadband or mobile service.

The Telstra Air App:

  • Automatically connects you when in range of a hotspot
  • Helps you locate your nearest hotspots, and directs you to them
  • Can be used it within Australia and across the world.

Unfortunately even the new fancy graphic email notification of this does not display properly on my windows phone leaving out the main content..

Hi there, is this an issue caused by the app update?

Can you please try un-installing the app and then re-installing it?

Often this fixes the issue.

Let me know how you go.

@Andrew7222 I don't have much luck with home Telstra hotspots either. You need to be pretty close to them for it to work and even then the speed you get doesn't seem worth bothering.

Hi there,

You do realise that if you are on a prepaid plan, out of data but still have calls and texts, that when you use the Air app, and browse the map for nearby hot spots that the map wont load because its trying to use your data. Not the greatest idea since this may be one of the reasons you may want to use a Air hotspot because you have no data, the rest of the app seems to be "white-listed" as in it operates like the My Account app regards whether you have data or not, may I suggest you white-list the map as well... I had to connect to a mates WiFi so I could browse for a Air hotspot... oh boy!

Telstra Air no longer works for older devices. 9 February 2019

Suddenly, I can no longer login to my Telstra air account. I went to a Telstra shop where the sales person uninstalled the app. Upon reinstalling the app ,an error message in the app store showed "Your device isn't compatible with this version. " and "This app may not be optimised for your device " I was then informed by a telstra staff member that my mobile devices are no longer compatible and no updates available. So my Samsung 5g tablet and mobile phones that are just over 3 years old, can't connect to my Telstra air account without purchasing a new device. This doesn't help me as I work away from home 2 weeks a month and rely on the Internet to stay connected. What happens now!
