Telstra has introduced a range of location services that will help customers find the things they love the most - keys, bikes and family pets – and the important business assets they need such as hardware and vehicles.
In November 2018, Telstra announced this service and released the Telstra Device Locator feature on the Telstra 24x7 App. This feature helps customers locate compatible iOS and Android™ Telstra mobile phones and SIM-enabled tablets on their Telstra account, including the ability to send tailored messages to lost devices.
In 2019, we launched Telstra Locator, a new subscription-based finding service for consumer and small business Telstra mobile customers. By attaching a Telstra Locator Tag to their valuables, customers will be able to use the Telstra Locator App to help find their possessions if they go missing.
In order for Telstra customers to use the Telstra Device Locator app feature or Telstra Locator services, they will be required to allow location permissions within the Telstra 24x7 App.
When Telstra 24x7 App users choose to opt-in and enable location permissions they’ll also become part of the Telstra Bluetooth® Locator Community that allows Telstra mobile customers to securely and anonymously help each other find lost valuables. The Telstra Locator service launched this year includes Bluetooth tags, and owners will be able to locate lost tags and other compatible Bluetooth devices through the Telstra Bluetooth® Locator Community.

What is Telstra Locator?
Telstra Locator is a subscription-based finding service from Telstra that helps customers find the things that matter most to them – from keys and bags to bikes, pets and business assets like tools and vehicles.
By attaching a Telstra Locator Tag to their valuables, Telstra Locator customers will be able to use the Telstra Locator App to help find their possessions if they go missing. They will also be able to locate their compatible iOS and Android smartphones and tablets from the Telstra Locator App.

How does it work?
Telstra Locator has different tag types that can be placed on valuables and paired with the Telstra Locator App. Each tag is designed for different things. For example, the small and lightweight Telstra Locator Bluetooth Tag is ideal for keys and laptop bags. While the Telstra Locator Wi-Fi Tag is perfect for pets, bikes and large bags.
Each tag uses different technologies and networks to help users find their things – but they all work in a similar way. When a tagged item becomes misplaced, customers can use the Telstra Locator App to see the last known approximate location of their tag on a map. In addition, if the item is close by, they can use the ring function on the Telstra Locator App to help find it.

If I purchase Telstra Locator, can other people see my Telstra Locator tags or location?
The location of a customer’s Telstra Locator Tags, smartphones and tablets connected to their service can only be viewed by the customer themselves.
How will Telstra use location data that is collected via the Telstra Locator service?
Telstra will use the location data about Telstra Locator Tags and devices to supply the service to its customers. It will not be used for any other business purposes. To continually refine and improve our Telstra Locator service Telstra will use aggregated and anonymised data about the use of the platform and its performance.
What is Telstra Device Locator?
Telstra Device Locator allows Telstra customers to locate Telstra Post-Paid and Pre-Paid SIM-enabled devices (iOS and Android) under their Telstra account. Using the Telstra 24x7 App, the Telstra Device Locator gives you the ability to:
You can choose which of your devices has location sharing enabled, and anyone on the same account with a Telstra ID logged into the Telstra 24x7 App can see the location of other devices on the map. Data charges may apply.
So, how’s this different to other phone-finding apps on the market?
What’s unique about Device Locator is it’s designed for modern families with a mix of different devices, including prepaid and postpaid (plan) mobiles, in their household. Families will be able to connect their devices, including smartphones and SIM-enabled tablets with a combination of Android and iOS operating systems which are on the same account.
That means that if a family member leaves their Android smartphone behind, you can help find the phone by using the Device Locator feature on the Telstra 24×7 App – no matter what smartphone you use.
Am I eligible to use Telstra Device Locator, and is it free?
To use Telstra Device Locator, you must be a Consumer or Small Business Telstra Post-Paid or Pre-Paid mobile customer with an Android or iOS device. The feature is only for personal use.
Data charges may apply to use Telstra Device Locator, depending on your mobile plan. International Roaming charges apply when used overseas.
Telstra Bluetooth® Locator Community
What is the Telstra Bluetooth® Locator Community?
The Bluetooth Locator Community is just that – it’s a community of Telstra 24x7 App users helping other customers find misplaced items. Telstra mobile customers who opt-in for location permissions on the Telstra 24x7 App will form part of this Bluetooth Locator Community, as well as every Telstra Locator App.
How does the Telstra Bluetooth® Locator Community work?
When a lost item with a Telstra Locator Tag or compatible Bluetooth device attached moves within Bluetooth range of an opted-in 24x7 App user, the Telstra 24x7 App on that device will send its location and information about the tag or device to the Telstra Locator Platform, which supports the finding service. For Telstra Locator, this information is used to show the approximate location of the Telstra Locator Tag on the tag owner’s Telstra Locator App.
Is the Telstra Bluetooth Locator Community secure?
The Telstra Bluetooth® Locator Community works in a secure and anonymous way. Telstra Locator customers don’t know which community member has helped locate their device and the Bluetooth Locator Community member cannot see what devices the Telstra 24x7 app is detecting.
When did Telstra introduce the Bluetooth Locator Community and how?
Telstra introduced Telstra Bluetooth® Locator Community in November 2018 through an opt-in process for Telstra 24x7 App users. As part of an App update, Telstra asked Telstra 24x7 App mobile customers’ permission to use their location to help locate their and other customers’ Telstra Locator Tags and other compatible Bluetooth enabled devices. Customers will also have the benefit of accessing the Telstra Device Locator feature by allowing location permissions.
Do customers have to be part of the Bluetooth Locator Community?
No. Telstra mobile customers can choose if they want to be part of the Bluetooth Locator Community through an opt-in process on the Telstra 24x7 App and allowing location permissions. Customers who have opted in can also opt-out at any time.
Are there any additional data charges for being part of the Bluetooth Locator Community?
There are no additional data charges for customers participating in the Bluetooth Locator Community.
