Why you’ll love the Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2

Voice over 4G backup
NBN customers will be able to continue making voice calls utilising the 4G network in the event that their NBN fixed service is disrupted (and power is still available in the home). This means you can continue to make calls, which is particularly important in the event of an emergency.

 

New connecting customers
Power on working means you’re connected to the internet (via 4G) as soon as you power up the device, and until your fixed service is active. nbn™ customers will be able to begin making and receiving voice calls on their fixed handset, over 4G, as soon as the modem is powered up. Once the nbn™ service is activated, calls will start routing through the fixed service.

 

NBN transition customers
In the event of a delay or issue in moving from ADSL/Cable to nbn™, the Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 will ensure you remain connected to the internet and have the ability to make voice calls (over 4G) once your nbn™ is active.

 

Moving customers
Customers who move house will be online from the moment they power up the Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 while waiting for the fixed service to be connected. That means you’ll have one less thing to concentrate on as you organise your new home. Customers remaining on nbn™ will also have voice over 4G available and can still make calls to organise other services or trades. Customers who are moving to a new home and connecting nbn™ for the first time, will be able to utilise voice over 4G once the nbn™ service is activated.

Important to know.

Mobile backup will only work in 4G and 4GX areas, ensure you check the coverage map. Voice backup is only available on NBN services. 4G data speeds and usage may be capped.

The following will not work on mobile backup connection: Telstra Air, Telstra Broadband Protect, T-Voice services, some Telstra Smart Home services, fax machine / EFTPOS, fixed SMS, back to base alarms, medical alarms.

We’ll notify you by SMS when your Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 switches to 4G backup. These SMS notifications are limited to two per day (one for switching to mobile backup connection, and the other for when you return to fixed connectivity). You’ll need to have a valid mobile number linked to your account in order to receive these notifications.

Does anyone know the size dimensions (height, width etc) of the new Telstra Smart Modem™ Gen 2 as I need to fit it in a small cupboard?

When do the notifications occur? It's been a few hours and nothing? The previous Frontier model notified me within minutes. Reason I ask is that I have a few smart camera's and the back-up 4G service isn't quite great for uploading video. I would like to be notified rather than having to keep an eye on the LED.
