What is happening?

Brookside Shopping Centre, located at 159 Osborne Rd, Mitchelton QLD 4053, is undertaking rectification works to the surface of its cooling tower and to remove and replace all signage to the tower.

Telstra is required to shut down parts of its mobile infrastructure on the centre roof while this work takes place.

Whats the impact?

We have a number of other mobile base stations servicing customers throughout these areas and we are deploying a mobile cell on wheels at our Mitchelton Exchange to minimise coverage impact to our customers, but at times customers will be unable to make or receive calls or texts on their mobile phone.

To minimise disruption as much as possible, deactivations will be staggered, but customers in parts of the following areas may have their mobile services impacted during these specific periods:

  • Gaythorne: 30th January – 9th February
  • Mitchelton: 12nd February – 22nd February
  • Everton Park: 23rd February – 7th March

Disruptions to mobile services are expected to occur between 6am-6pm Monday to Friday. Services will be in operation on the weekend.

Where other mobile network operators are in the same situation, they will also need to switch off equipment they have on the Brookside Shopping Centre site. This means customers may have difficulty calling Triple Zero on a mobile device at certain times in some locations, as customers’ devices will not be able to access the other operators’ mobile networks for Triple Zero calls.

What can I do?

Customers with compatible devices can look to activate Telstra Wi-Fi Calling, which allows you to make and take mobile calls when connected to a Wi-Fi network, such as your home or office network. Further information can be found in our Telstra Wi-Fi calling FAQ's.

We are also making use of our payphones in these areas to provide free local, mobile and national calls during the same periods of disruption, as well as free WIFI on our Telstra Air enabled payphones.

Customers can also visit their local Telstra store for further assistance.

We apologies for this inconvenience but wish to advise our customers that the disruption is the result of third party works and we have explored all possibilities to mitigate as much as possible the impact to our customers.

*Excludes international calls, 13 numbers, premium and directory services.

**WIFI available at Telstra Air enabled payphones.
