To boost performance, you could try freeing up space from the internal storage and then performing a hard restart (to clear the memory properly) - hold down the down volume button and the power button together until it vibrates.
Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.
Do you mean performance as in making or receiving phone calls?
