Last night received a call from someone saying that he was from Telstra telling me that I had a virus that knocked out BigPond in my area.
And that if I didn't let him have my bank details so that I could pay to restore BigPond then I would be held responsible for any damage loss of income etc.
How did he know my telephone number?
How did he also know that I am a Big pong Customer?
The only thing that he didn't get right was that he told me that my 'Window' computer had the virus.
I don't have a windows computer.
Just a warning to all BigPond customers.
Beware. Don't give anyone any details over the phone.
Was this helpful?
G'day LoBo16 and welcome to crowdsupport.
Thanks for the heads up.
Obviously these thieves (and that's all they are) assume most people use windows.
Even if they had guessed your machine correctly, they are lying, as there is no way on earth that can pin down something like a virus on a home PC, nor can they ask for money or threaten.
If you get their number via caller ID, you can report it.
Unfortunately, it's a game of "whack-a-mole".
