Re: How do I block nuisance calls (Telstra Technical Dept)

Depending on where you are receiving them there are some ways Telstra can help. If the calls are on your landline, please call our Unwelcome Calls Team on 1800805996. If you have a phone which shows you the numbers of the callers, we can block them for you. If you don't have a handset which shows you the numbers of the callers, you may want to look at the Call Guardian handset. This phone can be set to work in 'announce' mode so anyone calling your number needs to announce who they are and then press '#'. This will knock out a lot of autodiallers (scam and marketing calls use this technology) so your phone should not even ring. You can also choose to block callers in this mode. If the calls are coming through on a mobile and you are a postpaid mobile, you can look at setting up our free feature Mobile Protect. You can also sponsor any friends or family who are prepaid. I hope this is of some help and please call through to our Unwelcome Calls team for further assistance.

Re: How do I block nuisance calls (Telstra Technical Dept)

There isn't any foolproof way of blocking them as they make it appear that they originate from many different numbers.

You can reduce them over a period of time by asking them to hold for a second while you "go to your computer" and then just leave the handset sitting on the bench for 5 or so minutes until they hang up. They mark you as not worth their time (unfortunately there are a few scammer groups out there so it takes a while).
Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.

I've found the best way to stop also future calls is politely tell them they've made a mistake as you dont have an internet service and you dont have a computer.
