Hey I got an iPad Air 2 5 days ago on at 24 month plan. I haven't payed a bill yet but my monthly payment is $170 I think... 

I was just wanting to cancel my contract and take the iPad back as I don't like the product and regret getting it in the first place. I was just wondering how much it would cost to cancel everything, even if I handed the iPad back. (Nothing is broken or wrong with the iPad I just personally don't like it)

The way that contracts usually work is as soon as the device and SIM are activated the contract has started and it would mean that the 24 month contract is then started and active so the full ETC would usually be applicable.

That being said, I would highly suggest calling 132200 between 9am and 9pm ACST (central time) M-F and say "Disconnect" and you will get a specialised disconnection team who are based in Adelaide and will be the best trained to assist you with that enquiry.
