So Nokia aren't releasing the 2520 in Australia.
The question I have is which country do I buy one from; the United States or United Kingdom to get the best compatability with 4G bands with Telstra in Australia.
The US 2520 has products specs quoting the following bands:
LTE network bands: 2, 4, 5, 17
The UK 2520 has products specs quoting the following bands:
LTE network bands: 3, 7, 20
The Lumia 1020 supports the following bands in Australia:
LTE network bands3: 1, 3, 7, 8, 20
This seems to suggest the UK is a closer match but still misses two bands (1 and 8).
I need to know if those are Optus or Telstra bands.
But I can't find any info from Telstra to try and match the bands they use with these devices.
Does anyone have any ideas please?
Thanks!
Hi hairyyak,
We don't generally talk in bands like 1 - 2 -3 etc.
However we use Mhz instead, so the ones that Telstra use are
850Mhz

Hairyyak,
The following LTE Bands are in use by Telstra:
3 = 1800MHz (current)
8 = 900MHz (not currently in use - future use - frequency currently used for 2G services)
7 = 2600MHz (not currently in use - future use - frequency available late 2014)
28 = 700MHz (not currently in use - future use - frequency available 2015)
So, if you are buying a device now, you will need one that uses Band 3.
Steph, you might want to put these in your memory bank as well as all device manufacturers use Bands in their specifications for LTE. The generally don't publish it using MHz light they did for GSM & UMTS services.
Can you post your source please that this device is not being released here?
My iPad contract is up & am keen for the big T to get these so I can upgrade...
From the US Lumia 2520 user guide: 'You can only use your device on the LTE 700 (17), 850 (5), 1900 (2), 1700/2100 (4); WCDMA 850 (5), 900 (8), 1900 (2), 2100 (1); and GSM 850 (5), 900 (8), 1800 (3), 1900 (2) MHz networks'.
From the UK Lumina 2520 user guide: 'You can only use your device on the LTE 800 (20), 1800 (3), 2600 (7) MHz networks, WCDMA 850 (5), 900 (8), 1800 (3), 1900 (2), 2100 (1), and GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz networks'.
Based on the Telstra advice above, it seems that at the moment you need the UK version to access LTE (1800 [3]) in Australia, but both will work on GSM 850 and 900.
From Wikipedia, LTE 700 (17) will be available from the end of this year:
Network Frequency(MHz) Band Class Notes Available Spectrum
Telstra | 1800 | 3 | 4G FD-LTE | Currently operating in Australian capital cities and regional centres | 15 to 20 MHz |
Telstra | 700 | 28 | 4G FD-LTE | 31 December 2014 | 20 MHz |
Telstra | 2600 | 7 | 4G FD-LTE | available 1 October 2014 | 40 MHz |
Telstra | 900 | 8 | 4G FD-LTE | Announced 20 February to broaden scope of 4G network | 5 MHz |
