Home phone problem

My wife Christine is the account holder. We purchased a Telstra Call Guardian 301 cordless in 2015. Great phone to keep the pests and scammers at bay. Today I went to make a call on handset 1 (main user) and there was no dialtone and ringtone at other end was extremely feint. Tested the the handset by calling from my mobile but same result I could hear my wife but she could not hear me. Then answered call using handset 2 (rarely used) that seemed to be OK. Tried doing a reset for handset 1 no change. Any ideas?
