Re: Message content rejected due to suspected spam IB703

Hi!

We are having exactly the same issue.

I've checked Spamhaus and also Sender Score that is advised on some other Bigpond bounce messages.

For the sake of sanity, I also checking MXtoolbox.

We got several mail servers, they all look good.

I've also checked the links that were sent on the email for any untrusted site. There were only a couple, and they all look good.

The messages also are good, enought text, no "spamming" words (couple of them are newsletter, it's not even "selling") stuff.

Previously, we were getting: Connection refused due to exceed max concurrent connections. IB007 (as per yesterday)

Today, it seems we are getting Message content rejected due to suspected spam IB703, but there is no evidence our emails are blacklisted, so I am not sure why they are returning.

Anyone from Telstra to give an insight?

Re: Message content rejected due to suspected spam IB703

Hello, firstly apologies for adding to your thread! I have exactly the same problem for 3 different email addresses so maybe we can all get an answer - I have 3 websites that are on different servers and about 14 days ago none of these can send email to any bigpond email address.

As the other users have mentioned, I have also checked all blacklists spamnhaus, mxtoolbox, invaluement etc none of my IP addresses or domain are blocked.

I have DKIM and spf activated on my servers - I called Telstra but they could not help and suggested this forum. I have tried searching for a solution but it seems this is a bigpond issue and there is no solution that I can see.

Any help would be appreciated as this is preventing me from contacting and bigpond customers (I am also a bigpond customer and cannot send any emails to myself - which I don't usually do mind you Smiley Wink)

Re: Message content rejected due to suspected spam IB703

I'm in the same boat. I manage my own mail server outside Australia.

All e-mails sent to Bigpond are rejected as spam.

IP is NOT listed on any RBL. DNS is perfect.

Server IP is 192.157.248.124

These are business e-mails. Some are invoices.

What ever list Bigpond has We need to be removed form it ASAP.

Client computers genrating the e-mail are virus free and not sending SPAM.
E-mail server is virus free, not sending SPAm and correctly configured.
To the best of our knowledge bigpond.com is the only recieving domain blocking e-mail from this server.

netbookings1 original query is now 5 days old with no responce. Very unacceptable.

It is only bigpond email addresses that are affected. This is costing us time and money and is ridiculous that a corporation the size of Telstra cannot sort out this issue quickly.

all DNS checks are fine...as per Telstra recommendation sites for DNS lookup

I have now been on the support call for 1 hour and 10 minutes to 4 different people. They have no idea what I am talking about and just keep doing verifications on my identity and the forward me to someone else and I start all over again... WT???????

Re: Message content rejected due to suspected spam IB703

Just a note for people experiencing this issue, we've enabled DMARC (already had SPF and DKIM enabled) for our domain for email verification purposes and this seems to have fixed the issue for us.

I know this solution may be too technical for people without a lot of IT experience and shouldn't be necessary but it's a way to fix the issue without waiting for Telstra to resolve it.

Google DMARC or have a look at the following link if you use Office365 https://technet.microsoft.com/en-au/library/mt734386(v=exchg.150).aspx

Re: Message content rejected due to suspected spam IB703

We are seeing the same problem, sending from the crystalpools.com.au domain.

extmail.bigpond.com gave this error:
5A1472C00043353B Message content rejected due to suspected spam. IB703

A problem occurred during the delivery of this message to this e-mail address. Try sending this message again. If the problem continues, please contact your helpdesk.

It only happens when sending to a number of recipients with bigpond.com email addresses.

There are no problems sending to a wide range of other email addresses.

The mail server does NOT appear on any blocklists.

SPF is configured, has been tested and confirmed to be correct.

I have changed the -all suffix (Fail) to ~all (Soft Fail) to see if that helps.

Is it possible for the WhiteListing team to whitelist the domain crystalpools.com.au?

This mail server sends a lot of business emails, with proposals, quotes, invoices and other correspondence.

Since the problem started today, it has been impossible to send emails to some customers.

We are advising those customers to use a non Big Pond email if they want to receive email.

Thanks for your help (in anticipation).

Re: Message content rejected due to suspected spam IB703

I've found the cause for our problem.

Perhaps this will help your team to address this problem, which will affect many people if it is not fixed.

Incoming email to the bigpond.com domain goes to the mail server extmail.bigpond.com.

The SPF record is checked, and in our case passes successfully.

The email is then forwarded to another mail server in the BigPond/Telstra network, and the SPF record is checked again.

But this time, the originating server is extmail.bigpond.com.

As this server is not on the SPF record, the check fails.

This is a basic flaw in the SPF system.

If email is relayed through another server, that server's IP address is used for the SPF check.

So if an internal relay server enforces a hard SPF fail, that is effectively an abuse of the SPF system.

It should respect the fact that SPF has already passed, which can be seen in the email headers.

That is the problem, in a nutshell.

The Big Pond internal relay mail servers are enforcing hard SPF fails.

A really bad idea, whoever decided to do that.

So what can be done to fix the problem?

1. Set your SPF record to soft fail (put ~all at the end, not -all).

This will allow email to get through, but it will probably end up in the recipient's Junk mail folder.

2. Add "a:extmail.bigpond.com" to your SPF record.

This allows SPF to pass for Big Pond's internal relay servers.

But it may also allow spam to pass from Big Pond customers out to the internet through extmail.bigpond.com.

3. Big Pond fixes the misconfiguration of their internal relay servers.

SPF hard fails should not be enforced if SPF has already passed on the original SMTP transmission.

This would be the best solution and would fix this particular problem permanently.

Hope this helps, and I really hope the Big Pond team can get their act together on this.

Seems like many people would be affected.

Re: Message content rejected due to suspected spam IB703

I'm unable to email from Office 365 hosted email accounts into bigpond.com email addresses at the moment due to this issue.  Also breaks from hotmail.com.

I shouldn't have to screw around with my SPF records because of a bigpond issue.  Please fix this Telstra.

If someone at Telstra would like more details, let me know.

I'm getting this error today as well.  I'm trying to send Minutes for a sporting club and it sends to all our Committee members except the one person with a bigpond email address.

If I send the minutes using the exact same content to that person as the only recipient, then the message goes through.  But that just creates an extra trail that shouldn't be needed.  Telstra need to sort this out - seems like it has been going on for years!

Can someone please message me back in relation to this, with an email addresses or phone number to get a proper dialogue going to fix this issue.

We have been experiencing this issue for the last 24 hours since 11/12/17. We are sending emails from our internal job system to sub contractors and suppliers and bigpond.com and bigpond.net.au email addresses are blocking them, all other email providers are accepting. Hi Kenobi

i cant see the 'send this user a pm' link, when i click into your profile

like others i have the same end result of rejects from @bigpond.net.au addresses.  but only if these recipients are part of a Bcc (only 3 or 4 recipients, so its not a mass mailout).  if we send to these users individually (in the To: space), then the email gets through

the NDR is always the same:

extmail.bigpond.com rejected your message to the following e-mail addresses:

xxxxxxx (xxxxxx@bigpond.net.au)

extmail.bigpond.com gave this error:

Re: Message content rejected due to suspected spam IB703

It's December 12, and people trying to send me emails are receiving the same "rejected as spam" message IB703 -  as follows:

5A243B00076E0807 Message content rejected due to suspected spam. IB703 (in

This was in response to an individual message, no ccs, no bccs, no other recipients.

Re: Message content rejected due to suspected spam IB703

We have been having this issue now for a couple of days.

The system will not send any email that contains a Dropbox or WeTransfer link. To any one ... not just bigpond addresses.

Does not matter if there is a subject line and paragraphs of meaningful text (which there are). IP address is not on any known blocklist.

Latest OSX version and all updates for Office installed.

Had a very good call with Telstra Tech support who got webmail running ... but they also advised that this was outside "support" because it was to do with massage content!

Inserting a link from one of the two biggest file sharing services in the world should not be a problem ... it wasn't until about 72 hours ago.

Please fix your filters Telstra.

Hello,

We are currently having an issue sending mail from our server hostname.our.server at the IP 123.123.123.123

Sending mail to ccccc.cccccccc@bigpond.com returned the error

    host extmail.bigpond.com [203.36.172.106]

SMTP error from remote mail server after end of data:

558 5A17033B0DD099ED Message content rejected due to suspected spam.

We recieved a details.txt file along with this, detailing:

Reporting-MTA: dns; hostname.our.server

Action: failed

Status: 5.0.0
Remote-MTA: dns; extmail.bigpond.com

  • Sample dates & times of when the error is happening.

This error happened at exactly 12:01pm on the 11th of December 2017, at least that's when the error message was put in to our inbox.

  • Sending domain/address

From the address ddddddd@bbbbbbbb.com.au to ccccc.cccccccc@bigpond.com

  • If you are attempting to send to addresses at bigpond.com or bigpond.net.au or both.

    Just bigpond.com.

  • An approximate of the volume of emails that are attempting to send per hour to us.

Around 60-70 per hour. We host emails for many people.

  • The source IP of the sending server if possible.

    hostname.our.server @ 123.123.123.123

  • Justification of the request

It was just a simple email detailing a debtor statement to our accountant. This is not the first time we have sent one of these, and it will not be the last. It is the first time it has failed however.

  • Contact details

You can reach me at support@bbbbbbbb.com.au

    Thank you,
  • aaaaaaa aaaaaaaa

This was enough information in correct enough of a format for the issue to be fixed and if everyone copies this and enters their own info in place of mine it will fix your issue too.

I’m posting a reply so that I can PM details also. Seems like a painful process for something that Bigpond is aware of.

Re: Message content rejected due to suspected spam IB703

This is sort of ridiculous. For 6 months, people have been complaining that they can't send perfectly legitimate emails to anyone at bigpond and all you keep requesting is to PM you the details instead of fixing the problem? Obviously something is either really broken at bigpond, or you have the worst email filtering security on the planet.

I actually took the time to register an account here (I'm in California, US) because a Christmas email to my cousin was being rejected for the same reason as all these unlucky people who have posted here.

So I either have to jump through hoops to get my email delivered, or my cousin doesn't hear from me.

What is interesting is you (Technical Support) keep it all secret. "PM me your details", over and over.
What the **bleep** is the big secret? Post here what the problem is and let everyone know! Is this some secret club we have to PM you to get the privilege to send an email?  Better yet, do something to fix it!

Are you ever going to fix the problem so everyone can email your customers?

Hi DEMin SD,

You have to post before you can private message as noted above so now you should be able to send through the error details if you have them.

The information is asked for via PM as ip and email addresses in the error contain private information which is not to be posted in the public forums.

Re: Message content rejected due to suspected spam IB703

Our website had this problem on Monday morning. We send out thousands of emails to subscribers - 900 rejections all from Bigpond accounts :
Message content rejected due to suspected spam. IB703
Have sent this reply so i can PM with the details but this does look like a major issue with so many people hitting the same problem.
