Syncing bigpond emails

Answered

I am using Outlook to receive bigpond emails on a MAC and have my bigpond email on my iphone 7. Is there a way to sync both so i do not have to manage email on two devices. I also want to see the folders I have on the Mac on the iphone as well.

Re: Syncing bigpond emails

To set up Outlook to use IMAP following these instructions.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/2648915/microsoft-outlook-for-mac-compatibility-with-apple-...

Use the following settings:

Incoming server details:
Incoming server address: imap.telstra.com
Incoming server port: 993
Encrypted connection: SSL

Outgoing server details:
Outgoing server address: smtp.telstra.com
Outgoing server port: 465 (recommended) or 587
SMTP authentication: On
Encrypted connection: SSL/TLS on port 465 (recommended) or STARTTLS on port 587
Username & Password:
User name: Your Telstra email address - ending in ‘@bigpond.com’, ‘@bigpond.net.au’ or ‘@telstra.com’
Password: Your Telstra email account password - REMEMBER it’s case sensitive.
Other settings to check:
Make sure ‘Outgoing server requires authentication’ is ticked.

Re: Syncing bigpond emails

If the account is setup as IMAP on the iPhone and in Outlook they would sync

Is it setup as IMAP on either of the devices at the moment?

Re: Syncing bigpond emails

Probably the best way to do it without potentially losing anything is to add the account again but as IMAP (don't delete the POP one yet)

This will result in all your emails being downloaded again into the IMAP account. What you can do from there is wipe out all the emails in the IMAP account, then copy and paste your POP folders and emails into it (don't cut and paste in case something goes pear shaped during syncing).

After your satisfied that all the data has been copied from one account to the other. You can make a backup of the POP account (again just in case) and then remove it.

Depending on how many emails you have. It may take some time and data allowance to do it this way (make sure your iPhone is on WiFi and not using mobile data), but at the same time the chance of losing emails or folders is minimised.

Re: Syncing bigpond emails

I am more concerned about creating the imap on the Mac using outlook for windows. The iPhone is already imap (but I don’t see the sub folders )which is not a real issue. Any ideas on how to create imap on the Mac pro

Re: Syncing bigpond emails

You should be fine to remove the POP account now if the IMAP account is looking all good
