Telstra Pre-Paid Data Pass II – Important Information

Please note, this plan has been discontinued. It is no longer available to new customers or for existing customers to switch to.

If you’re currently on Telstra Pre-Paid Data Pass II, you can find important information about your plan and inclusions below.

Not sure which plan you’re on?
Here’s how to check or change your plan.

Recharge inclusions

This plan excludes usage such as calls and texts to Australian and international numbers, third party content or subscription purchases, all use while overseas and pay-as-you-go data.

Roll over
Keep what you don’t use. Roll over unused data when you recharge before expiry. Your new expiry date will be that of the last amount recharged.

Data charges and usage

Once you have used up all the data included with your recharge amount, you will need to recharge again.

To understand how much data you might need, visit the Data Usage Calculator.

The easiest way to keep track of your data usage and check your balance or expiry is:

  • download the My Telstra app on your tablet
  • or visit from your browser if connected to a Wi-Fi or USB device

You can also register for a Telstra ID to get access to My Telstra online.

4G and 4GX Telstra Pre-Paid Wi-Fi devices indicate approximate data usage on the device screen or with LED lights. When connected, you can also access more information from your device’s homepage at From here, you can manage your Wi-Fi password, monitor data usage and receive notifications of software updates.

We recommend recharging with your credit/debit card or using a recharge voucher (available from a Telstra or partner store) via:

  • the My Telstra app on your tablet
  • or at from your browser if connected to a Wi-Fi or USB device

If you know your service number, you can also recharge at, and you don’t have to be connected to your mobile broadband internet to do this. If you’ve registered for My Telstra, you can recharge your service from there, too.

You can choose to set up Scheduled Monthly Recharges via My Telstra in app or in a browser or by visiting A saved payment method is required, and you will need to set up a 4-digit PIN to authorise payment.

Changing to a new plan
We recommend changing your plan when your current recharge is about to expire, to avoid losing any of your inclusions.

Please compare the new plan to your current one, including expiry dates, inclusions and rollover rules, as these may differ. You will not be able to change back to Data Pass II.

Once you’ve changed your plan, we’ll send you a text to confirm. You’ll then need to recharge to get the benefits of the new plan.

Find out how to change your plan.

Using your service overseas
International Roaming is automatically activated on Telstra Pre-Paid services. However, the Telstra Pre-Paid Data Pass II plan excludes all use overseas.

Unlocking fee

If you want to use your Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband device on another network, you’ll need to pay a network unlocking fee.

Recharge only period

To keep your service active, you’ll need to recharge 6 months from your last recharge expiry date. After this time, you may need to purchase a new SIM card. When your service is in recharge only period, you can receive calls, but cannot make calls (except to emergency services and some Telstra Pre-Paid service numbers) or use any other features of our services.
