cant send email on Oppo phone using Mobile data

I have just purchased a new Oppo R9S Plus phone and set up a Telstra pre paid account. I am trying to set up my personal email on it when using Mobile Data, and I have - but I can only receive emails, not send. I have used mail.bigpond.com and port 25 as the Outgoing Server setting but I get a Server Connection Error. I spent 2 & 1/2 hours chatting with Telstra and tried smtp.telstra.com and multiple others as my outgoing server. ALL failed.  I get a Server Connection error. My email (ISP) is with a company called TechInfo, who are awesome - they use the Telstra network. It works when connected at home to wi-fi - just not when dependent on mobile data, but I need it to work. Hopeful of a solution.....thanks.

Re: cant send email on Oppo phone using Mobile data

Essentially the answer is yes, yes, yes and yes - I've tried everything !

It is not a Telstra mail account (ie: BigPond etc).  My email account is through a 3rd party Internet Service Provider who relies on the Telstra network - so my incoming mail settings need to be mail.techinfo.com.au.

Two weeks ago I had an iPhone that was able to send and receive emails when out and about - it was capable of saving multiple outgoing server details, so when I was out and about, and dependent on mobile data and wished to send emails, I would just toggle over and select mail.bigpond.com as my outgoing server name, and it would send.

Have tried that too - no good. I can only set up my mail account by using my wifi settings, with the outgoing server name being smtp.truisp.net.au  Only then am I able to change the outgoing server name and test it - but nothing I try will allow emails to send when I am connected to mobile data.

Cheers

Re: cant send email on Oppo phone using Mobile data

@davidward1

so did they tell you when they might update the ports for their email servers to

outgoing: 465  or 587 or 110

incoming: 995 or 25

given alot of mail server /ISP companies have now blocked ports 25 and 110.

have you tried setting up under advance settings using exchange options ?

Re: cant send email on Oppo phone using Mobile data

@davidward1

could you  post the "Server Connection Error"

and have you already setup like a

- gmail email account

- outlook email account

- standard bigpond/telstra email account

Before trying to set-up the TechInfo email account?

Re: cant send email on Oppo phone using Mobile data

I don't know about blocked ports etc. or upgrades to their ports - all I know is that it worked last work on my iPhone using the same settings that I've tried.

We did set up my gmail account on the phone (well, my son did) - we could be on to something there??

Could that affect the outgoing email set up ? (because I did not have my gmail on my previous phone).

Apologies I was delayed at work

Yes - I can send and receive emails on the Oppo phone from the webmail.techinfo.com.au browser using either wi fi or mobile data
