I mean if your management actually had some brains it would be really a smart move right now .....

its just a pity you dont keep enough local people employed to answer the blasted phones......

I agree with you about Telstra answering there phones but it would be impossible for a company the size of Telstra to design its own phone and make it economically successful. Many companies such as Microsoft, Nokia and Palm have tried unsuccessfully to compete with IOS and Android.

There are a couple of Linux phones on the market but non are economically successful. They are much heavier and bulkier than equivalent IOS and Android phones. They are also much more expensive.

I agree with what you wrote except the Linux suggestion.

For reasons well above me, it used to be a viable option before Windows became as stable as it now is,

But......   Many years ago,  I used to volunteer for an organisation that provided  refurbished computers only with Linux.

Because expertise is limited, even to attach many printers/scanners, required serious and specialised Linux knowledge, and the only inbuilt drivers were for older discontinued printers, and scanners were a problem.

Even adding a camera, hard drive etc was a technician visit....and a long one.

You would know at one stage some hardware manufacturers occasionally included Linux drivers, but that reduced / has ended.

When those Linux computers  would come back for hardware repairs etc, many of them had been converted to Windows.

On the other hand, I know one of the biggest Australian government departments used them as servers for many years, but again, they were replaced with MS products.

Linus Torvalds had a great idea, but it ended up like Beta and VHS. VHS won the consumer, but for decades, every television station from Darwin to Tasmania used Beta based equipment.

Sometimes the best technologies are a great idea, but don't have that level of consumer execution.

Not sure about "bringing back" in house phone design. Never seen a true Telstra/Telecom mobile. Plenty of network design and research a few decades ago.

Telstra is far too big/small to be able to take on such a task.

Cretsia, Telstra previously designed even more complex devices than phones......

Telstra Research Laboratories in Clayton,  (which were closed down) invented and built the prototypes of the Cochlear Ear Implant for the professor at the Eye and Ear Hospital who had the "idea".    It was done as a community project free of charge. In those days, Telstra was regarded as one of  the best 5 best telephone networks in the world.

Telstra has 1/3 of their work force absent due to COVID-19 employment restrictions. And it was only this week that the VIC government allowed 50% of workforce returns.

Telstra is bringing back the workforce to Australia, but its about 2 years off full implementation.

you might want  to revisit some linux distro's in relation to camera's and printers....

hell even steam has made some pretty big jumps in the last couple of years

i am currently using linux mint 20 and i only have about 5 games in my steam library that i cant play yet

uuumm i'll agree to disagree on win10 stability sorry....

i  had 2 computers with win10 on them that have similar win10 update loop issues ..... every morning i have to have to wait around 30 mins to clear the un-updatable problem. i have managed to fixe one of them by changing the drives file system from MBR to GPT....

then there is the constant issue of date/time sync on win10 for those of that wish to use3 more than one operating system on one computer....

from what i had seen (although its been awhile) the currently available linux phones still were leaning on google way to much anyway... except maybe Librem 5 but granted even that still needs some work...
