HTC wildfire, bigpond not recognising as compatable handset.

I have a HTC wildfire. Recently I have been unable to access foxtel, games and videos on the Telstra bigpond webpage. The page just keeps telling me that my handset is not compatible. It is frustrating as I have had no troubles accessing them in the first couple of months I have had the phone. Most frustrating is that I have rang Telstra and gone in to the shop and all they can tell me is I need to turn the phone off and on (obvious and tried number of times), or just completely reset the phone, which I don't want to do as I will lose everything. Can anyone help me and offer a solution !!! Thankyou I also ask this, why does Telstra offer products on their websites if they stop working and they can't offer a solution to fix customers problems

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you
  • No, I still need help

Re: HTC wildfire, bigpond not recognising as compatable handset.

Hi Wanderinghobbit,

Try the below steps and check out whether the problem is resolved or not.

1. Launch Bowser

2. Select "Menu button".

3. Select "More"

4. Select "Settings"

5. Make sure "Mobile View" Check box is enabled.

Now try to to access any of the bigond services, They should work.

I hope this solution helps you in resolving your problem.

Re: HTC wildfire, bigpond not recognising as compatable handset.

Thankyou for the reply. The only recent updates I have done to the phone are the automatic ones the phone downloads. Maybe this has caused problems with the phone. Any further ideas on my proble. Thanks.

Re: HTC wildfire, bigpond not recognising as compatable handset.

if it was an iPhone I'd suggest resetting your network settings to reload the carrier profile and settings, I'm not sure what the equivalent action would be for your phone (sorry) but might be something to look for, just thinking the settings may have been corrupted during an update perhaps

Re: HTC wildfire, bigpond not recognising as compatable handset.

It would be so much easier if Telstra would just include on their webpage under 'MY' tag and settings a section where you can just select what handset your using, instead of the website trying to detect it.

Tyrone,
I am unsure what version of Android I'm using. What ever comes on the HTC wildfire. It may possibly be android 2.2.1.

Re: HTC wildfire, bigpond not recognising as compatable handset.

normally you'd go to Settings/About or similar and there should be a tab with software information where you can view the version number

Re: HTC wildfire, bigpond not recognising as compatable handset.

Hi Wanderinghobbit,

Try these steps to reset the browser settings.

That will clear any new updates or changes done on the browser settings.

Steps

1. Launch Browser.

2. Select Menu button.

3. Go to More.

4. Select Settings.

5. Scroll down to select "Reset to default".

Then let me know, if it resolves your problem or not.

Re: HTC wildfire, bigpond not recognising as compatable handset.

Have you rooted your phone? I rooted my HTC Wildfire and I have the same issue. Haven't found a fix for it as yet.

Re: HTC wildfire, bigpond not recognising as compatable handset.

Hi,

I am also having the same issue with Bigpond Videos. Both on a HTC Desire S and a HTC One XL. Trying to access the TVN racing video stream and keeps saying either device isn't compatable. Tried on both 4G and 3G on the One XL.

Have tried resetting settings and made sure the mobile website option is ticked in settings.

Really not sure what is going on and why I can't access Bigpond Videos on a Telstra NextG or 4G device.
