Mobile not ringing when on wifi

I've got a Telstra Tough Max (ZTE84).

When I'm on wifi and connected to my home network calls just go straight through to Voicemail.

The phone doesn't ring, it doesn't log a missed call I just get a text saying I've missed a call from whatever number.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you

Re: Mobile not ringing when on wifi

If an Unreachable divert diverts to your voicemail, it means that the phone (handset)  itself never received the actual call from the network.  It seems that there is some incompatibility between your WiFi network and phone, that is, the phone does not receive the call. It's not a phone issue as far as the receiver not working, but it's relationship with your WiFi

If I have helped you, a "Like" would be appreciated.

Re: Mobile not ringing when on wifi

If there is a WiFi calling setting on the phone try disabling WiFi calling. This site shows how to change WiFi calling setting on Android phone.

Re: Mobile not ringing when on wifi

In the phone app settings are there any Wi-Fi calling or Voice over LTE settings?

To get to settings on the voice app, open voice app and tap on the three dots top right

Can't find anything like that anywhere.

Settings doesn't have anything for wifi other than turning it on and off

Found this;

Poor old Tough Max 1 not compatible. Tough Max 2 is.

Seems connecting to modem just diverts calls and nothing can be done about it..

Re: Mobile not ringing when on wifi

If the phone does not support WiFi calling then call should not be diverted to WiFi. There is either a problem with the phone or Telstra Network.

Re: Mobile not ringing when on wifi

It doesn't divert to wifi. It diverts calls to voicemail when connected to wifi via my modem. Doesn't even ring.

Re: Mobile not ringing when on wifi

It should not divert at all. Call should connect using normal the normal cellular network unless you are located in an area that has 4G only. If your phone does not support WiFi calling it probably does not support VOLTE which is required for making and receiving calls over 4G

Re: Mobile not ringing when on wifi

Seems to be an incompatability issue with the phone and the wifi.

I'm pretty sure this never happened with our previous modem/ADSL connection but can't be sure.

Doing an internet search seems it's not an uncommon occurrence.

The phone works fine when not connected to wifi so I guess I'll just not connect it anymore
