Hi Folks, my old windows phone is on its last legs so bought a new Galaxy A20. Needed a new sim as well as old one was micro and new phone only takes nano. Tried to activate nano from Telstra sim kit and keep old prepaid number but activation stalls when told existing service is prepaid telstra. Can go no further with activation.

I have a solution, but no answer. I still have no idea why the starter kit wouldn't work and transfer the old number. But the solution was elegant and simple and had no etech about it. The Telstra shop has a clipper which can transform a micro SIM into a Nano Sim. Job done with charm and grace - old SIM in new phone - the wonders of the steam age!

Re: new sim new phone
Codi on chat support tells me a sim from a starter kit won't work, so I am off to Telstra shop to seek assistance. I am a bit annoyed at this as I can't see where the problem lies, but I'll try to remember to report back here to crowd support,

Re: new sim new phone
Hello @Tags,
Thanks for your comment, glad to hear it worked out in the end.
The starter kit you purchased is to start a new service, not to modify an existing service.
The new service can be the new number that comes with the kit, or you can 'port'
a number from another network to Telstra.
Generally we would post out a blank sim card to replace your old one, or as you have
noted, stores can modify an existing sim or organise a sim replacement if necessary.
Thank you for sharing your experience with the community!
