Telstraone app

Answered
Hi,

I have a Telstra HTC sensation and I have an app called onavo count which tracks the individual data usage of all the apps on the phone and i have realised that in about 2 weeks the telstraone app has used 100mb even though I don't use it or the widget associated with it. So i checked the running services and the only telstraone service that runs is the widget update service which doesn't make sense because I don't have the widget on my home screen to begin with. I'm not worried about the data usage because it is unmetered but it is a waste of battery just to have it downloading data I don't even use. I was wondering if anyone could explain the point of the service running if i don't need the app.

Regards,

Gabriel.

Re: Telstraone app

Hi Gabriel,

Thanks for your post regarding the TelstraOne app preloaded on your HTC Sensation handset.

Firstly, welcome to CrowdSupport Smiley Happy Please stick around and offer any expertise you have in the range of topics here in our Community.

I'd like to let you know that from 12 July 2011 most of our Android devices have been preloaded with the TelstraOne app. The TelstraOne for Android is an application that allows easy access to My Account data usage, Weather forecast information and BigPond News and Sport information.

I understand that you don't use this app manually but runs on the background as you found out. The point of the service running in the background is for you to be able to have the TelstraOne Experience as part of your Telstra mobile service.

TelstraOne Experience is an innovative user interface making it easier for a customer to personalise their mobile with "one-click, one-touch" access to what they want, across selected handsets in the NextG™ range. This has been developed alongside our partners to provide a unique Telstra customer experience on Android devices.

The benefits of TelstraOne Experience is that it provides "one-click, one-touch" access to popular mobile phone features, applications and services our customers regularly use - such as Mobile FOXTEL from Telstra, Sensis search and Facebook Customers have the ability to personalise their mobile phone giving them a fast way to access what they want.

You are correct that usage for this app is unmetered but that downloading data that you don't use may contribute to battery wastage. In that case, you should be able to disable some of the features or 'Force Stop' the application from your application menu settings.

You may also want to refer to FAQ: Getting the battery to last longer to optimise your battery power usage.

I hope this has offered you some clarification about the TelstraOne application.
