If you believe your phone is locked to our network, you may be able to unlock it by retrieving your International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number that is used to identify your device.

+  How do I find my IMEI number to unlock my Pre-Paid mobile?

You can unlock your Telstra Pre-Paid mobile, iPhone or mobile broadband devices so they work on another network. If your service has been active for over two years, we don’t charge an unlocking fee, but if your service has been active for less than two years, we charge:

  • $80 for devices that have never been activated, or active for six months or less
  • $25 for devices activated for six months to two years

To unlock your Pre-Paid device, you’ll need to find your phone’s IMEI number.

There are four ways to locate the IMEI number for your Android device:

  • Dial *#06#
  • In the Settings menu, select About Device > Status
  • Look under the battery
  • Find it printed on the original box your device came in

There are three ways to locate the IMEI number for your iPhone:

  • Dial *#06#
  • From the Settings menu, select General > About > IMEI
  • On the SIM card tray or back of the phone, depending on your phone model

Once you’ve located your phone’s IMEI number, you’ll need to contact us so we can provide instructions on how to unlock your device, and if an unlocking fee will apply.

Send us a message in the My Telstra app:

  1. Download or open the My Telstra app
  2. Select the Get help tab
  3. Tap on the blue speech bubble on the bottom right to send us a message

If you’re unable to use the app, please contact us for help.

Good to know: Remember to back up your phone before you unlock it or you may lose your data.

+  How do I find my IMEI number to unlock my mobile on a plan?

We don’t currently lock month-to-month mobile plans to our network. If you’re on a month-to-month plan and believe your phone is locked to our network, contact us so we can help.

This didn't work for me.  Because I had already transferred my number over to another provider.  Just thought I would let you know.

Hi There

There's two parts to successfully unlocking your iPhone;

Part 1: Request the unlock from telstra.com/unlock if you are a personal Telstra customer on a plan. Pre-Paid customers should call 125 8887 and business customers should call 132 000.

Be aware that it may take Apple up to 72 hours to complete your unlock request.

Part 2: After 72 hours follow the Apple unlock instructions (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5014) using your iTunes account to complete the unlock process.

You will need an active internet connection, a USB to connect the iPhone to a computer, the latest version of iTunes, and the Apple unlock link above.

See more information about the unlock process here: Unlock your Apple iPhone from Telstra - Post Paid Customers

Do I get notification from Apple that my phone has been unlocked?

If so, how is that information shared. Problem I have is my Telstra # has been ported but my new SIM is showing in my iphone as NO SERVICE because I've since found out that my iPhone is locked.

So if they advise it's unlocked by SMS, I wont get the message.

Does anybody have any experience with unlocking iPhones?

Hi Yannick and team.

Please help!

I'm overseas on business and I've been though steps 1 and 2 several times but when I put in a new sim card I keep getting the message that the sim isn't valid.

I believe my phone is part of a plan with my family, possible a business plan. Does this change things?

Help!

Hey atashinew,

Your other option is to bring up the keypad and dial *#06# - the IMEI should appear on the screen on pressing the last #

we usually set a password to lock the phone screen. Only we input the correct password so we can use the device as normal. However, Apple Account Recovery sometimes password we set is very complex and couldn't remember it.
