Handset blocked on 3G Network only

Answered

We recently changed 2 numbers over to Telstra from Optus. We are using Apple iPhone 7 on IOS 11.4.1. The phone works normally when on 4G, but when the signal is low and drops back to 3G, we can't send or receive SMS, or make or receive a call. We receive a message "This handset has been blocked on this Network" If you restart the iPhone or wait for 4G service, everything returns to normal. This is very frustrating when you are travelling around Sydney and the network changes between 3G and 4G regularly.

Any suggestions to fix this?

Re: Handset blocked on 3G Network only

That is an odd one. A lot of handsets that are sold at Optus can't use the Telstra NextG (3G) network because they don't have the correct radio in them. The iPhone doesn't fall into that category though, so it would seem to be a different problem.

A suggestion would be to go in to your mobile network settings of your iPhone and reset the network settings. This will force the iPhone to set up the connections from scratch and it should forget the old Optus settings that may still be hanging around.
Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.
