Please clarify what you mean by “standalone”.

I know persons with iPhone 12s that function on the Telstra 5G mobile network.

Hi, thanks for replying. There are 2 types of 5G, NSA for Non-Standalone(which relies on the 4G LTE network)  and SA for Standalone( Which is independent of the 4G LTE network and has better speed and latency).
And there is one US carrier(T-Mobile) who already enable their customers to use Standalone 5G on their iPhones(Source:https://www.phonearena.com/news/apple-ios-14-5-update-t-mobile-5g-standalone-support-iphone-12-famil...)

It will be a little while yet. Trials with Enterprise customers are only just getting underway.

Consumers will probably see it become available late 2022. They need to start rolling out 5G small cells for it to be a reliable service (which will mostly be mmWave, which the iPhone models that are sold in Australia can't use).

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.
