I had just been to Optus to confirm that they supported pre-paid eSIM.
I walked into the Telstra Shop on the corner of Bourke and Swanston Streets and walked  out 20 minutes later with the phone set up with eSIM.

Since then I have used the physical SIM in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. During that time I receive all of my Telstra line notifications as I need, e.g. my bank OTPs go to my +61 number.

Maybe I mentioned that Optus had support? Good one Telstra.

"Post-paid only" - I agree that was the standard response by all carriers until my November visit.

As per my replies today, "yes'.
Note that I am a cheap-a$$ed customer with all up $70 per year pre-paid plan because I live overseas but want to ensure I continue to receive SMS and calls from my long-term phone number. So I cannot believe I am a special case.
