Please check https://servicestatus.telstra.com/# it might just be a temporary outage or could be something to do with the phone.

How long has the issue been happening & have you tried restarting your handset?

Try removing your SIM and reinserting. Also reset your network settings as that may help.

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.
