Account Fraud

We, an accounting firm in Sydney, do not use Telstra. We have no agreement with Telstra. We received phone calls and emails from Milton Graham, a debt collection agency, regarding outstanding Telstra tax invoices. After our investigation, we found that a business owner in Queensland used our company details including the company name and the Australian Business Number (ABN) to sign up for a Telstra service. How can Telstra allow this to happen? We would like you to solve this problem immediately.

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you
  • No, I still need help

We made a complaint. SR 1-2406683732421.

Hope Telstra can rectify this account fraud and inform Milton Graham, the debt collection agency, as soon as possible.

Re: Account Fraud

If you inform the debt collection agency that you are disputing ownership of the debt, then they are required to confirm that it is actually you who incurred the debt and to stop pursuing you in the meantime for that debt. But as an Accounting firm, you should already know that.

The debt collectors should be able to do that by getting the signed contract agreements from Telstra and then confirming that the person signing and/or the location of the service does not match your company's details.

Re: Account Fraud

Hi @Jupiter Thank you for your comment. ฺBy phone, we did ask the debt collector to provide us with the signed contracted agreements from Telstra, but they could not provide it.

We made a complaint to Milton Graham via https://www.miltongraham.com.au/hardship-dispute-or-account-enquiry-complaint-form/

Re: Account Fraud

Excellent. That would make their debt collection effort invalid. They are required to verify the authenticity of the debt when challenged.

Re: Account Fraud

Hi @Jupiter @MR_AX500 Milton Graham does not stop chasing us. Is there a number where we can contact Telstra fraud team?

Re: Account Fraud

There is no direct number that you can ring.

I would recommend calling the ACCC on 1300 302 502 and reporting the Debt Collector as it sounds like they are in breach of the guidelines.
