Gateway Max 6300 with Netgear R7000

I will be taking delivery of a Telstra Gateway Max 6300 sson to replace the 3100. I am considering connecting a Netgear R7000 router to it as my son is constantly complaing of bad connection when he is on hois PS4, and it is excerbated when I at home working on-line, and my partner is always online also. We tried a hard wire from 3100D to the PS4 and my son there was little difference in performance.

Has anyone out there got the same set-up and is it an easy thing as I am not that technical... Anything I need to look out for? Should the new router be hard wired to the PS4?
