Tap left on at telephone exchange - Telstra refuse to help
I walked past the local telephone exchange (Carlingford NSW) yesterday and noticed a tap behind the exchange behind the locked gates of the exchange. Now, 36hrs later, the tap is still running. I've tried to report this to telstra via the phone, live chat and social media but nothing has been done.
Was this helpful?
- Yes it was, thank you
- No, I still need help

Re: Tap left on at telephone exchange - Telstra refuse to help
Thanks.
I was finally, after 30min on the phone, able to talk to someone who could help eventually. Though they initially told me to contact Sydney Water - not sure how they can turn a tap off behind locked gates.
Lets see how long it takes them to turn the tap off

Re: Tap left on at telephone exchange - Telstra refuse to help
24hras later and the tap is still one. I rang Telstra again and was told then don't have anyone trained to turn off a tap. Using the links and email Adam provided to see if I can get a response. I wonder if the SMH or ABC would be interested in this story

Have you considered ringing the local water authority?

Re: Tap left on at telephone exchange - Telstra refuse to help
Andy Penn (Telstra CEO) trumpets Telstra’s green credentials yet cannot get a leaking tap shutoff. A disgrace.

No one trained to turn off a tap?
With Telstra that's quite possible.

They can't reach it from the Philippines or Mumbai... and taps don't have the My Telstra app!

Re: Tap left on at telephone exchange - Telstra refuse to help
It's worth considering that under the NBN Act arrangements, Telstra has rented most of their exchanges to NBN. I don't know if in fact Telstra still have actual access, but NBN certainly do.
Regardless, it would be practical for the "tailor" the OP to attach a note to the front gate where techo's come and go, asking them to turn off the tap. That seems a practical solution.

Two weeks after I first noticed the tap and it’s still running. Apparently it’s need a plumber to fix it. How hard can it be to get this fixed. What a waste of water

A Google search brings up this webpage. You may want to write to this group which is in Australia. They deal with communications sent to the CEO, who you mention has green credentials.(as above).

Re: Tap left on at telephone exchange - Telstra refuse to help
I wonder if they realise that they don't need a plumber to apply a temporary fix to a leaking tap? If the leak coming through the tap itself (normally due to a failed washer), all they need to do is attach a cheap two way hose adapter (cost $7) and turn off both outlets.

Try calling talkback radio 2GB. Their shock-jocks like ammunition to give rockets to CEOs like Andy Penn.

Re: Tap left on at telephone exchange - Telstra refuse to help
I’m pleased to report the tap has been fixed. It only took 3.5 weeks and pressure from a federal MP. Thanks for the suggestions and support.

Re: Tap left on at telephone exchange - Telstra refuse to help
Hi Community
Glad to see we were able to get this resolve, 3.5 weeks was too long. Occasionally these type of issues do take time to get through to the right people to fix. We appreciate the community bringing these issues to our attention

Great news, Telstra support could learn a lot here about rapid response and eventual closure on an issue...
