Broadband Data Usage Spikes

I have been on Telstra - NBN Broadband for over 4 years and never had a problem until July 15 when data spikes started to occur.

In the last 30 days I have supposedly used 488 GB on my 50 GB superfast plan .In 14 days the spikes were  averaging 35 GB per day - one day was a massive 76 GB !

My wife and I are pensioners and hardly use the internet except for emails and some facetime.

Since 18 July I have spoken to 11 different people at Telstra complaints as well as the Telstra NBN Technical Team and I cannot get an explanation - solution . I have called in to the Telstra Shop and the Telstra Business Office in Albury but no help from either !

Last Friday nite I was on the phone to them for 2 hours ! and got nowhere apart from changing my network keys again [ for the second time via 10.0.0.138 ].

I was sent a new Telstra Gateway Max 2 modum on 28 July but this has not solved the problem. I now turn the modum off all day but its a nuisance because I have to turn it on to go on the net or use our homeline phone.

Check out the usage below ....

Is it possible that the house next door could be " milking " my data via the Telstra / NBN cabling pit . Its only a newly built house next door and the shared pit is on my front lawn. I am going to compare my data usage stats with my neighbours to see if his usage is rediculously LOW .Also the plastic pit is always full of rain water - garden run off - could this be affecting the FTTP cabling - causing my spikes ?

HELP PLEASE ....

Re: Broadband Data Usage Spikes

@Lindz888

could be a couple of different things here going on.

first things first

1. use an online anti-virus, anti-malware scanner  on all computers tablets and phones, make sure there is no hidden nasties.

2. some one could be botting/ spoofing your modems address.

3. based on these, facetime usage

https://www.ashiktricks.com/facetime-data-usage/

http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/facetime-data-usage-and-voice-minutes/

you would use about 180-300mg of data per hour (however I would consider this a Standard Definition rate and not a High Defintion rate).

High Definition rates usually tend to be alot higher

to give an example of Netflix High Definition can run at a rate of upto 25mg/s

Telstra customer 15+ yrs, I am not a Telstra employee and never have been

Kudos and thanks welcomed
