A few years ago, Telstra had data sharing. That allowed us to put all of our devices’ allowances into one “bucket”. Then each device could draw from the same “bucket.”
As noted elsewhere, data sharing was discontinued a few years ago. However, the same thing can be accomplished using a device as a hotspot.
The only difference is a considerable decrease in convenience.
Why doesn’t Telstra reintroduce data sharing? Since we are still using the same amount of data, it would cost Telstra nothing.
In short (too late?): no cost to Telstra, increased convenience for customers.
I think this would be a great PR move for Telstra.

While hotspot can do similar when you are in one place it let you share with family’s devices which may not be in the same location. My best guess is that as they did it when they introduced the shaped/slowed plans it was to do with how to charge for additional data if you have a new shaped and non shaped (excess data) plans on the same account.
they do seem to be dipping their toes in to the waters around the subject with the newer BYO Upfront Plan which does have data sharing with other Upfront Plans but it is under very set situations (it is only one specific plan, one set data inclusion, only available on autopay)
