I have this modem and it rarely dropout. Most of the dropout are for a firmware update about which occur about once every three months. If you are experiencing frequent dropouts then it is probably due to fault with the link. Do the state of the lights on the modem change during dropouts?
What do you mean by too many cables. All modems require the same number of cables.
