What model phone are you using?

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.

OK. Some things to check.

In settings, go to Connections

then mobile networks, then Access Point Names

Make sure that Telstra Internet (telstra.wap) is selected

 

Also, under Connections, select Data Usage and make sure that Mobile Data is turned on.

 

If they are selected, then try putting your phone into Airplane mode for 30 seconds and then turn off Airplane mode to see if it forces it to connect.

 

If not, take out your SIM and reinsert it. Sometime the contacts can be misaligned so they don't read correctly. It could also be that the SIM is faulty.

 

Also, if you are on a prepaid plan, check to make sure that you have data remaining on your recharge. If not, you'll need to recharge.
