Nighthawk data usage

Just received my netgear nighthawk 4 days ago and already have gone over my 30 gb allowance. Have not been using it for anything more than emails, Facebook etc. nothing special. Have had to turn off and use my mobile phone as personal hotspot as it isn’t using a fraction of that amount. How can I fix this?
