I want to buy my husband a mobile that has internet and add the phone to my account. Am I able to do that or does it have to be post paid phone. He only needs a mobile to scan the Covid app when he shops.

You should be able to add another service to your account - either prepaid or post paid.
With a postpaid though, you will probably have to set that up with Direct Debit. But the post paid plan data can probably be shared with other devices on the account, if they are suitable.
There are lots of options to consider..
Depending on contract costs, maybe upgrade your own device and pass on the old one after a factory reset and a SIM only plan.
The option of getting a used, unlocked device on the second hand market, or even buying from places like Australia Post might be worth considering, then just get a SIM only plan from Telstra, or a Telstra offering from Woolies or Coles etc., might save some money..
Too many devices, probably an addict 🙂 also a tinkerer and developer of stuff..
