My Pixel 2 XL has a cracked screen. I know I can take it to independent repair shops but I'd like to know the process of repairing it through Google via Telstra.

You take it to a Telstra Store, they send it away for assessment, you will then receive a quote for repair as not covered by warranty. The whole process takes about 2 weeks. Make sure you back up the contents of your phone.
Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.
