Transfer of number
It has been 7 days since I have tried to become a customer of Telstra and they have yet to success in transferring my number over to their provider. It is really frustrating as I have been told many times it has been done with no success and now I am overseas and contact has become impossible and am I now expected to pay 2 providers for nothing.
Is there any alternative to contact Telstra or maybe I need to take them to the ombudsman and my business elsewhere.

Re: Transfer of number
Porting of numbers can be a problem if the original provider does not update their routing database properly (happens quite often). Telstra need to contact your original provider and ask them to rectify.
Even if it gets fixed, there could be an issue with your getting your service working while you are overseas if your SIM hadn't registered onto the Telstra network in Australia prior to you leaving.

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.
