Video Calling with Pixel 5

Hi,

I've recently upgraded to a Pixel 5 from a Galaxy S8 and was able to make video calls to other Telstra customers using the default phone app. Now to make a video call using my Pixel 5, it wants to use the Google Duo app. Can the Pixel 5 make video calls using the default phone app rather than needing a third party app which also requires the people I want to talk to, to install it too?
