bigpond email

On my bigpond email I constantly get this error message:

Task 'Slevin Family - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC90) : 'Your incoming (POP3) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). The server responded: -ERR Exceeded the login limit for a 5 minute period. Reduce the frequency of requests to the POP3 server.'

I have asked Telstra people several times and they keep telling me that it is Outlook 2010 but it also happens on my iPhone.  I can go for ages and not get any email from this address but I have work email address that I use on Outlook and my iPhone with no problems at all

Can anyone help me please.

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you
  • No, I still need help

Re: bigpond email

Hi LynneMS,

Can you confirm which mail platform your service is connected to? If you are uncertain you can log in here: http://bigpond.com/email-status

I suspect that it may be because customers on the original BigPond mail platform (not yet migrated to Outlook.com) will experience a conflict with the multiple connections via POP.

Your work email address most likely uses IMAP or Exchange which wouldn't have the same limitations.

Alternatively, you may like to consider migrating your BigPond mailbox across to the new mail platform hosted on http://outlook.com. We have been migrating customers since February 2012 and customers can opt in at a time of their choosing rather than waiting for the forced migration to occur.

Customers can use the following link to request the migration: http://www.telstra.com.au/broadband/extras/#tab-bigpond-email

Make sure that any contacts stored within webmail are saved as these will not be migrated across. Also, any emails within folders in webmail will be migrated to Outlook.com and placed in the Inbox which will trigger them to be downloaded again. Given your current concerns I would recommend cleaning out any unwanted emails from webmail prior to submitting the migration request to prevent further duplication.

Once migrated customers will need to log into http://outlook.com to complete the setup process and to accept the Terms and Conditions as outlined here: http://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Bigpond-Email-Inc-Windows-Live/Problems-with-sending-or-receiv...

Customers will also need to update each email program with the new settings which can also be found on the previous link.

One of the main benefits of the new mail platform is that it supports IMAP which means that all of the emails will be synchronised across all devices once configured.
