How can VPN be set on Testra Max gateway for cable connection?

You can't. Those with an inferior complex at Telstra removed most of the good functionality in the firmware.

Just bridge it and use another router to do the VPN work for you.

What do you mean? The Modem can't be used as an end point you have to set up the client on your computer.

I thought it can be used as a Wireless VPN router.like VPN routers below:

you can configure VPN on them,and whole house trffic will be routed through VPN.
