I'm on a casual plan and at some point in the next 6 months, I plan on moving out and into another house with the SO. We are both with telstra, so there is no point in obviously keeping two cable plans for the one house.
My question is, what does one do with the modem we have to pay to own at the start? Does telstra take it back and I get my $70 back? Or does it just collect dust since I'm not giving a free modem back when I had to pay for it in the first place and didn't want to have to use that type of modem over the one I had originally (although it was an adsl modem and not cable, hence using telstra's).

You can do with it what you wish. Telstra won't take it back, and they won't refund you the purchase price of the modem.
