Changing wifi channel

My WiFi channel always changes on its own even though I turned off band steering and made sure its not on auto. When i try to put it on a specific channel and save it changes to that channel but a minute later it reverts back to auto for some reason. How do i stop it from doing this?

Was this helpful?

  • Yes it was, thank you
  • No, I still need help

Re: Changing wifi channel

Band steering doesn't affect the WiFi Channel, that is to do with the steering of traffic to either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz wifi band.

The modem is designed by default to choose the most uncluttered WiFi Channel to minimise interference from other networks in the vicinity, and does this very well in most cases.

If it isn't saving the channel selection, it may be a bug in the firmware. @cf4 @Yastiandrie have either you you seen the channel not holding?

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.

Re: Changing wifi channel

Never seen that happening before. I have seen WiFi changes sometimes not saving on the Arcadyan modem LH1000 and you have to save settings again. On saving the WiFi settingd changes a messages displays stating that changes have been saved but when you navigate out of the settings and then back in the changed settings have reverted to original settings.

Also the Arcadyan modem has a tendency to log out when saving settings without saving the settings. This happens on all settings especially if trying to change more than one setting. Example trying to save several static leases in the one save.

Re: Changing wifi channel

It may be a silly question, however are you clicking on “save” when you make changes to the wifi channel selection?

Re: Changing wifi channel

Yes I am clicking on save. The messages that settings have been applied will only display if the save settings button has been clicked.

The question was for Bean3. A Supreme Being would of course know this.

Re: Changing wifi channel

The problem with it choosing the most uncluttered WiFi channel is it's usually the most unstable one with significantly lower download speeds.

Re: Changing wifi channel

Yes, I always click on save and can see the 'settings applied' message pop up. I also double check it by logging in again after it saves.

Re: Changing wifi channel

You could try making changes to wifi via an ethernet connection and see if it holds the saved channel for the specific frequency. Best channels are non overlapping channels on 2.4 such as 1,6,11.

Re: Changing wifi channel

I changed the WiFi channel from 4 to 1 and saved it. About a minute later it just went back to auto and changed itself to 13 and now for some reason I cant connect to the WiFi at all. I've been with Telstra for many years and I've only had this issue for the last few months.

What is the model number of the modem?

Re: Changing wifi channel

I have seen some reports of Arcadyan modem's defaulting to channel 2, even if manually changed from a while ago but was under the impression that had been fixed.

Still no luck after hard resetting unfortunately.
