Connecting NBN

Answered

I have just moved into a new property (Unit). There is a Foxtel cable outlet in the lounge room. Can this be used  to connect to the FTTC outside the property. I do not have a phone socket in the room so cannot connect via this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Connecting NBN

No, FTTC connects via a phone socket.

The Foxtel cable outlet is not connected to the phone lines.

Never be afraid to back yourself when trying new things, just always make sure you have 3 escape routes if things go wrong.

Re: Connecting NBN

Some suggestions:

1. Contact a retail service provider (Foxtel, Telstra, etc.) and ask how they would connect you, i.e. FTTx or HFC?

2. Or go to https://www.nbnco.com.au/ and key in your address.  It will tell you the type of technology that is to be used at your address, and if you have HFC for Foxtel there's a chance that's your NBN technology type even if FTTC is there too.  And if so, NBN on HFC when you already have Foxtel will add a coax splitter between the wall socket and the Foxtel box, allowing you to add the NBN NTD (modem) and then a router/gateway.

Of course, if Foxtel's via satellite, forgot I mentioned HFC!

And I presume there's no phone socket anywhere at all in the house, i.e. no fixed phone?

Set it & forget it
